The Night Circus

The Night Circus

by Erin Morgenstern

Coined the Twilight of magicians, The Night Circus is a fanciful, vibrant exploration of the inner workings of a circus.  The Night Circus leads us through the forced rivalry, and later passionate love story, of two illusionists in the early 1800s.

Named one of Amazon’s Best Books of the Month for September 2011, The Night Circus captivates its readers, swallowing them whole into a lush world of magic, vivid scenes and an artistic combination of heart-wrenching romance and whimsical byplay.  Considered an adult book, it is clean and suitable for older children as well. The debut book for author Erin Morgenstern, it was set to launch with 175,000 printings – an impressive number for a debut.  So far, it is holding up to expectations, and the company behind the Twilight films have already purchased rights to it, with rumors that the producer of Harry Potter will be leading the show.  Perhaps the film version is not far behind, a relief for anxious fans.

The Night Circus is getting rave reviews on Amazon, with such comments as “a truly magical book”, “fantastically delicious” and “I’m in LOVE with this book”.  With more than 300 reviews and a 4-star rating, this book is poised to be the next big hit, just in time for those of you who are missing your Twilight and Potter fixes.

I’m a little disappointed in the pricing scheme Random House has set for the Kindle version.  At $12.99 for Kindle, I think I’ll be waiting awhile to get my copy.  The paperback version is $14.03.  Both prices are pretty high, even for a new release.
